The Journey to Recovery

Moving through and beyond addiction requires more than will-power. It requires the courage to take a journey of transformation. It's been said that a problem cannot be solved at the same level it was created. Going it alone without the proper information or assistance is not only difficult but also potentially dangerous. Professional help is often necessary to help overcome the initial discomfort of abstinence, including cravings, physical symptoms, past associations and life changes. This is where we come in.

Crystal Cove Recovery has a highly trained staff, most of which have made the journey to recovery themselves. This makes our team uniquely qualified to identify with and support you in replacing destructive habits with healthy ones. With a ratio of approximately one staff member for every two clients, we can provide extensive one-on-one counseling. Our program is State-Licensed and our entire staff is accredited members of the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Educators (CAADE), a board created to uphold excellence in the education of drug and alcohol studies. We make ourselves available for you 24/7.

Evaluation

In order for us to put together a program tailored for your specific needs and goals, it's important to know who you are and where you are coming from. You’ll receive an initial mental health evaluation by a qualified clinical psychologist to determine underlying causes that may contribute to your substance abuse. Dual diagnosis is the medical term for a person who has two co-existing disorders, such as depression or anxiety, combined with alcohol or drug abuse. Mood disorders caused by chemical imbalance may stimulate a need for alcohol or drugs in order to relieve or mask the symptoms. For instance, a manic episode may increase the need for a drink to calm down, whereas the effects of depression may warrant drug use for mood elevation. Diagnosis of underlying causes is necessary for successful treatment so we can address the root of the problem, not merely the symptoms. Mood disorders and substance abuse are two conditions that are treatable and when both are addressed, success is much more likely. If necessary, medication may also be prescribed for mood stabilization.

Individualized Plan

Based on your clinical results, a comprehensive treatment plan is then developed for you. This includes a combination of traditional Western medicine and advanced Eastern holistic processes to provide you with the most complete healing experience of mind, body and spirit.

Mind

Our clinical psychologist works together with our certified addiction counselors to tailor a program specific to you. In addition to the possible existence of dual diagnosis, we take into account other contributing factors such as family dynamics, personal relationships, co-dependency, sexual triggers or abuse, economic factors and health conditions. We take into account your individual needs, values, and future goals. Individual therapy sessions with our clinical psychologist may also accompany marriage and family therapy. Extensive one-on-one counseling with our certified drug and alcohol counselors will help you address underlying emotional issues and build healthy strategies for success in long-term sobriety. Our caring staff facilitates a safe environment for processing and releasing frustrations that come up in early sobriety among others who are dealing with similar situations on a daily basis.

Body

Next, our holistic practitioners will meet with you to personally discuss and chart any physical discomfort you may be experiencing as a result of past injuries, traumas, or the stress of withdrawal from drugs or alcohol. It's not unusual for people dependent upon chemical substances to forgo proper medical treatment for injuries, relying instead on drugs or alcohol as a band-aid to mask the pain. In the early stages of abstinence, you may find yourself in physical pain from a neglected injury. Our holistic practitioners will work with you using massage therapy, acupuncture and herbal remedies to apply the proper healing techniques that stimulate your body's own innate power to heal. We support our holistic processes with proper nutrition and the opportunity for daily exercise. A complimentary pass to the local fitness club is provided to help encourage the benefits of regular physical activity. In the event that traditional medical care is required, we also have a physician on staff.

Spirit

In the 12-step model, addiction is referred to as a spiritual malady. Recognizing and recovering your spirit – the true essence of you – is a vital component in the healing process. Meditation is a powerful tool we teach to discover the silence that is always present within. We encourage time for journaling and self-exploration to assist you in connecting with your inner self. Finding a spiritual connection brings you in line with your core values, awakens creativity, and instills a sense of life purpose. It is the essential component to long-term happiness and success in sobriety.

Implementing the Plan

After meeting with our clinical therapist, holistic practitioners and your assigned drug and alcohol counselor, you will have a clear idea of your overall recovery plan. We will give you all the support you need to heal mind, body and spirit, but the ultimate decision to follow our recommendations and abstain from drugs and alcohol rests with you. During your stay at Crystal Cove Recovery, you will be required to attend two 12-step meetings on a daily basis. Every week you’ll have individual sessions with our clinical therapist, your drug and alcohol counselor, and our holistic practitioners for massage and acupuncture. In addition, you’ll attend daily instructional modules and workshops to further educate you on the disease of addiction and how to manage it. You’ll learn about anger management, core values, family dynamics, co-dependency, and how to deal with negative emotions such as guilt and shame. We give you the necessary tools and education you need to turn your life around. You will get out of our program what you put into it. And we will meet you half way.
